Job Description

Location: Wigan, Greater ManchesterStart Date: September 2026Contract: Full-time, Term Time OnlySalary: Competitive, dependent on experience

Teaching Personnel is seeking a caring, enthusiastic, and dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to work within a Primary SEN School in Wigan.

This rewarding role involves supporting children with a range of special educational needs, helping them access learning, develop social and communication skills, and achieve their individual goals in a safe and nurturing environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-to-one and small-group support to pupils with special educational needs.
  • Assist the class teacher in delivering engaging and inclusive learning activities.
  • Support pupils' communication, social, emotional, and academic development.
  • Encourage independence and positive behaviour.
  • Adapt learning resources and activities to meet individual needs.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and other support staff.
  • Help create a positive and supportive learning environment.

Requirements:

  • Experience working with children with SEND, either in a school or care setting.
  • A patient, compassionate, and proactive approach.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • A genuine passion for supporting children with additional needs.
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one.

Desirable Experience:

  • Supporting pupils with Autism (ASC), ADHD, speech and language needs, or complex learning difficulties.
  • Experience within a specialist SEN setting.
  • Relevant Teaching Assistant qualifications or training.
